About the MSGA Junior Tour
For several decades, the junior program of the Maine State Golf Association has
produced some of the top golfers in New England. Now under the direction of Mike
Doran, a former Maine Junior Tour player under longtime MSGA Junior Director Tom
Kimball, the Maine Junior Golf Tour is continuing to produce some of the best
golfers in New England.
The Maine Junior Golf Tour is a great way for junior players to play
competitive golf over the summer months at some of the finest golf courses in
the state. It is the perfect way for players to hone their skills for the
upcoming fall high school golf season. In fact, nearly all of the All-State
golfers in the state have been past participants in the junior program. The
program stresses sportsmanship, etiquette, and friendship in a tournament
environment, and focus on the positive values that golf brings its followers. We encourage juniors to become involved. We offer a comprehensive tournament schedule and have made it easier than ever to participate by implementing an online registration process. We encourage players to sign up and manage their own tournament schedules online. Players should also be aware of our cancellation policy, and parents are asked to make sure they educate themselves as to the rules surrounding the junior tour. All information about the program is located on the MSGA’s web site at www.mesga.org. The tournament season will culminate with the Junior Championship on August 1-2 at the MSGA’s current home, Val Halla Golf Course in Cumberland. The championship will be a two-day stroke play event.
Juniors are encouraged to play a practice round in
the afternoon and stay for the banquet, which is free for tournament
participants and scholarship recipients. Parents and friends can attend
for a nominal fee, but must RSVP in advance. Check out the Maine Junior Golf Tour and get the most out of your summer golfing experience. Junior Tour News The MSGA is delighted to announce that Mike Doran of Portland is back on staff in the position of Junior Coordinator. As Junior Coordinator, Mike will be responsible for handling all aspects of the Maine Junior Golf Program and for teaching golf's values to the hundreds of players who take part in our events. Assisting Mike throughout the summer are Cody Berkowitz and Adrian Bouthot, both of Portland, to serve as Boatwright interns. Also new for 2012 is the introduction of a college division for players within our regular junior events. The purpose of the new division is to provide golfers an avenue to play competitively over the summer even after they have passed their 17th birthday. To play in the college division players can still compete for $23 per event, provided they can show a valid college ID or transcript. The MSGA is very excited to provide our younger generation of players with even more opportunity to compete over the summer months. Parental Expectations for Maine Junior Golf Tour
As parents and
guardians for our young golfers, we know that you want to help the players
succeed at this sport. We have some basic rules for all spectators to follow
while watch-ing the golfers on the Maine Junior Golf tour. Please note that
breach of these rules could cause a spectator to be asked to leave the golf
course, and could also cause the player to be disqualified, so your cooperation
is greatly appreciated.
All spectators must stay 50 feet from players; Junior Tour Cancellation Policy
The absolute deadline for cancelations is noon on Friday of
the week preceding the junior tour event. Refunds will be paid at 80% of the entry fee, per MSGA policy.
If you paid online, you must cancel online, before the
deadline, in order to get a refund.
