Player Services ~ Memberships

All MSGA tournaments are open only to the amateur members of golf clubs and associations affiliated with the MSGA. Players must also have a current USGA GHIN card, issued by their club and administered by the MSGA, in order to participate in handicapped events. Employees of member clubs may play if they meet amateur status and have a GHIN handicap.

An MSGA membership card must be purchased annually by all amateur players. Cost for the card is $25 if purchased in advance and $30 if purchased at a tournament. Special note: Players will not be able to sign up for any championships until they have purchased their MSGA membership card. Visit our online registration to sign up electronically. All tournament applications, except weekend events, are now available on line as well. For junior players under 18 years of age, the membership card is $10. A card is required to compete in junior events. Please note that only one participant in the Father-Son Championship is required to have a membership card. Likewise, one particpant per team in the Maine Mixed must have an active membership in either the MSGA, the WMSGA, or the SMWGA. Professionals in the Charlie’s Portland Maine Open are not required to purchase an MSGA card.

Membership includes a Rules of Golf book along with an MSGA Member Rewards card, which allows player discounts at participating golf courses across the state. Players are responsible for adhering to all Member Rewards terms and abuse of the Rewards card could result in revocation of membership privileges. For a complete list of discounts offered, along with all terms, please go here. Players are encouraged to check the Rewards card terms frequently, as clubs get added and terms may change.

As stated, there are three ways to join the MSGA. You can join the MSGA online or print the application and mail it in with your check. Alternatively you can join at your first tournament and pay the scorer / tournament administrator.

To print the membership application go here.

To join online you will first have to create a username and password. You need to have an email address to do this. The process is easy and takes just a few minutes. A GHIN number is required in order to register for tournaments or pay for your membership. If you don’t know your GHIN number you may call the MSGA office at 829-3549 or reach us by email at don@mesga.org. Note - where it says register without a GHIN number, that's intended for professionals only. Once you have the required information click the link below. After creating your username and password, you will be able to purchase your 2013 MSGA membership. Simply creating a user name and password does NOT make you a paid MSGA member. Login and choose MSGA Membership Program Signup from the left-hand column. When the next window opens, put a check mark in the box next to the appropriate membership program. Then click the register button and follow the steps from there. It will cost you $25, unless you are under 18, in which case it’s $10.
