Part of the MSGA’s mission in promoting golf is to provide golf education in the forms of handicapping, rules of golf, etiquette and course marking seminars.
Golf seminars given by the MSGA can be any length you desire. We have a rules presentation, which lasts less than an hour, focusing on the most abused rules of golf, while our full Rules of Golf seminar is about three hours in length.
Course marking and golf course set-up seminars vary in length, depending upon the audience, and focus on different changes a club can make to speed up play and maintain course rating accuracy.
In addition, we offer a handicap seminar, which meets USGA requirements for clubs. Currently, all clubs in Maine are certified through 2011, but will need to be recertified beginning with the handicap system update in 2012. When handicap seminars are scheduled, they’ll be announced on our home page under the news section.
For the younger golfer, we offer a short seminar on etiquette and care of the golf course. We’ve worked in conjunction with the Maine Golf Course Superintendents Association to make golfers more aware of the effect they have on their courses and their responsibilities in helping to keep everything nice.
